Going back in time – Route 66 – Day One

As trailer pulling novices, we decided the first leg of our trip would be on smaller, mainly two lane, highways. We knew this would increase our drive time but what else do two newly retired folks have to do? We reminisced about trips with our families when were young. No seat belts, pillows and blankets for napping, a cooler with beer for the road (it was a different time!) and bologna sandwiches at the rest area for lunch.
We saw a loooot of Southern Illinois and Missouri farmland.

Dinner was at Urmrschlkr Burger Company – not a typo- really good burgers and fries cooked in beef tallow. That is new for me I have heard about it but first time to try them. Interesting thing…they have an Alpha Gal friendly menu!!

Pulling in to the RV stop for the night was a bit surreal. Vernon thought parts of it looked like a movie set. Complete with a stretch of the original road to walk. The owners are in the process of bringing the motel back to life and have added an RV park too.
