We left the ranch and headed west, “follow the route.” Today we choose a combination of highways taking current interstates but jumping off in places to travel the original Mother Road, which brought us to Erick, Oklahoma. It is a one stoplight town where you can imagine what it used to be…

The Main Street Bakery and Cafe did not disappoint. The daily special was fried pork chop, mashed potatoes, peas, gravy, toast, cherry cobbler and tea! Obviously, no need for supper tonight with a lunch like this! Although – the trophies on the wall kinda make you wonder about the meat on your plate, lol!

All across the panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas we saw alternative energy at its best!

We are setting up in a KOA park in Amarillo for a couple of nights. Pros – nice showers, camp store and laundromat – plus clean flat parking spots; Cons – not enough shade! It wouldn’t be a trip on Route 66 without a stop at the Cadillac Ranch! People have even started tagging the ground.
